Digital Storytelling

I have learned so much about digital storytelling. Before, I had never used iphoto or imovie and I am now much more familiar on the subject. I now know enough to direct students through their own project. I have learned that music can really enhance the subject and can be an excellent way of engaging students. The articles showed me that students can really learn a lot about technology and about subject matter by making a video. Students can do such a great, professional job on their creations and we should not underestimate them. Next year, I plan on having students create a dvd of their projects and narrate information about how people make a difference. I may have them choose music to go along.

How will your project address the skills business and industry tell us are important?

As teachers, it is important for us to prepare students for the real world and help them acquire the skills needed to be successful. This activity will have students work collaboratively with thier peers and with me through group work and collaborative projects. Students will have individal tasks and responsibilities in thier groups and must meet deadlines. They will need to communicate with the teacher and one another, giving updates on thier progress. This project will require students to use decision making skills while working in groups and when coming up with solutions for problems and answering questions.

2. How will your project address higher order thinking skills?

My project will address higher order thinking skills by appealing to students multiple intelligences and by using historical concepts and applying them to real-world situations. It will also encourage students to think critically and go beyond the scripted curriculum for answers and ideas.

1. How will your project meet your students’ learning styles and needs?

I will adapt my project to meet the needs of all students and different learning styles, including students with special needs. I will discuss important vocabulary with the English Language Learners and have students translate for those with limited English. I will be sure to work closely with those with special needs and intervention needs. Furthermore, my project can be adapted by the students to meet their intellectual and learning needs.
